Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president, and she also holds the title of most powerful female officer in American history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017, and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of sexual assault.
